What is the difference between the salutation and the participant greeting

This article describes the difference between the salutation and the participant greeting as well as the use of the corresponding placeholders. You will also find an overview of where these can be used and what examples are available.

To personalize your salutation, you can either use the salutation or the participant greeting in evenito. This information has to be entered when importing participants. Then the desired salutation can be inserted from the participant information into the communication by using the corresponding placeholder.

When storing the data with the participant, a separate column should be created in the Excel import:

Salutation

  • If you want to use the salutation, you need a column "Salutation", which is filled in with Mr. or Mrs
  • From this it automatically generates "Dear Ms" or "Dear Mr".

Greeting

  • However, if you use the participant greeting, you can fill in the column "Greeting" individually.
  • Attention: if you address some participants in the same mail with familiar form and some with courtesy form, you must also enter the name in the column "Greeting". This is because then you cannot use the placeholders %lastName% and %firstName%. The email would then only contain %participantGreeting%.

The excelimport could look like this:

Important: make sure that the descriptions are assigned to the correct column when uploading. If not, you can easily change this by drag&drop.

However, you can also add the data manually:

Application of placeholders

There are two placeholders which can be used for the salutation.

  • %participantGender% = Salutation
This is the form of address which the system automatically adopts on the basis of gender (which is deposited with the participant).

  • %participantGreeting% = Participant Greeting
The letter salutation can be individually defined and uploaded for the guest. The system takes this individual salutation from the database.

Use of placeholders

  1. Email:
To personalize the salutation in the email the placeholders can be inserted. You can either write the placeholders yourself or select them from the menu. You can find instructions HERE.

  2. Welcome box:
You can also use the placeholders in the welcome box on the registration page. The use is the same as in the email. HERE you can find the description.

  3. Badge:
On the badge letter you can use the placeholder %participantGreeting% to create a personal salutation. The placeholder %participantGender% does not work here. To use this salutation, you can simply insert "Dear Mr. and Dear Ms." in the Participant Greeting.

Examples

The most frequently used salutations are listed below as examples:

%participantGender% %lastName% = Dear Mr Smith / Dear Ms Smith
-> in the Excel column "Salutation" with "Mr/Mrs"

 %participantGreeting% %firstName% = Dear Sandra

-> in the Excel column "Participant Greeting" with "Dear"

%participantGreeting% %firstName% = Hello Carl

-> in the Excel column "Participant Greeting" with "Hello"

Note for other languages:

German

  • The placeholder for the salutation is Anrede:  %participantGender% = Sehr geehrter Herr / Sehr geehrte Frau
  • The placeholder for the participant greeting is Briefanrede: %participantGreeting% = must be deposited in German, e.g. Lieber

French

  • The placeholder for the salutation is Civilité:  %participantGender% = Monsieur / Madame
  • The placeholder for the participant greeting is Formule de salutation du Participant: %participantGreeting% = must be deposited in French, e.g. Bonjour
